With a month and a half until the Tiwi Islands’ grand final, a brand new pontoon has opened at Bathurst Island’s Wurrumiyanga.

The $7.5 million project, funded by the NT and Commonwealth governments, will allow for better transport for locals and visitors and provide other benefits to the Island.

Tiwi Land Council chief executive Andrew Tipungwuti said the pontoon would act as a cornerstone for future infrastructure. “This gives us access for our communities, our workers, transport in general and using our services with the SeaLink Ferry,” he said.

“The Tiwi Islands strive for investment so that we have opportunity for securing training and better jobs in the future.”
